Strike Out in Lakeside

This Lakeside property was listed at only $80K, so we figured we really ought to look at it.  Despite it being land-locked, despite it needing clearing, despite it needing a water solution, despite it needing grading.

The GPS had us troop up steep slopes with potholes, where the road signs were hand painted.  Apparently the city can't be bothered to label some of these roads.  We went past ranches with blindfolded horses, vegetable stands, and peafowl.

We went by too fast to get a good pic but I know you need a pic of peafowl

Then we went past the sign...

I'm telling you, they're everywhere!

...up a really steep road that was so narrow it's a good thing we didn't meet a snake trying to go the other way. (Other than the fact that I'm phobic of snakes, the silly thing wouldn't have fit!) At the top of the road was a home and definitely no place to park the car that wasn't obviously on that person's land.

Chris tried unsuccessfully to execute a 36 point turn and ended up backing several hundred feet down the road to a turn off by someone's well. There we left the car and trudged up someone's driveway to mount the uncleared mountain beyond.

Beyond the hill were some super pretty rocks!

I <3 me some pretty rocks!

Then we waded into the chest+ high bracken to climb some rocks only big enough to crush half our car and try to see the land that was for sale.

The view over my shoulder

With many sighings, we determined that indeed this land would take an easement, a grading permit, a road built with the easement, clearing and basically a whole lot of things we are just getting tired of thinking about needing to do.

To Chris I said, "I know that we were hoping to spend as little as possible, but I'm really getting unimpressed with land we have to pay so much and do so much to to make workable. At this point, I'd really just rather pay more for land that is at least cleared somewhat and has some way to drive to it." He agreed.

We walked the steep way back to the car. A short and uninspired visit.

  1. Yeah, I'm feeling exhausted just thinking of all that piece of land would need....
